Group D - FIFA 2010 World Cup

Group with the maximum number of possibilities
  1. Ghana : Have good spectator support. Lucky win against Serbia. Look to be more confident now. Are the group leaders now. Have a very good chance of qualifying for the next round. Even a draw with Germany will see them as the first African nation to qualify for the Knockout stage.
  2. Germany :  Clinical, precise, right on the money. Ruthless in their demolition of Australia in the first match. Very strong defense with the reputation of never conceding a goal [ well almost ]. Combined with this formidable defense they now have a young force of strikers. I certainly see Germany reaching the semis. With their surprise loss to Serbia, Germany have put themselves in a spot of bother. They now need to beat the group leaders, Ghana to be 100% sure of a place in the Knockout stage.
  3. Matches in Group D
  4. Serbia : Good attacking game. Do not have a great defense. But, did a great job of holding the mighty Germans to a 1-0 win. Athletic in the field. In a very tough position to qualify for the next round. They now need to win against Australia and hope that Germany either lose or end up drawing with Ghana.
  5. Australia : Good strikers and good attacking game. Need to fix a lot of their loop holes in their defense. Are virtually out of the tournament. Need to win by more than 5 goals against Serbia to move to the next stage.

  1. Australia fought like warriors and were determined to score the required 5 goals to qualify for the Knockout stage. Loved watching their game against Serbia.

This only meant that Serbia were definitely out of contention to qualify from this group. This also gave hope to Ghana, since an Australian victory with less than 5 goals meant that Ghana would qualify even if they lose against Germany.

Germany playing without Klose lacked their attacking punch. They were lucky to score the solitary goal of the match against Ghana and top Group D. They now meet England in the Knockout stage.

Ghana should thank Australia who made their qualification easy. They are the second best team in Group D and become the first African team to qualify for the Knockout stage. They need to battle it out against the mercurial USA team from Group C for a place in Quarter Finals.
